Institutional status

The Global Risks Forum (GRF) describes only its own standing and its own relationships, and only when a record shows them. GRF is a Swiss association with a public-good, not-for-profit purpose, and one of the three pillar institutions of Nexus Consortiums. Statuses and memberships held by The Global Centre for Risk and Innovation (GCRI) belong to GCRI alone, and those of The Global Risks Alliance (GRA) to GRA. Neither extends to GRF. This page sets out what GRF's status is, what it is not, and how a relationship is added.

01In brief

The short answer.

GRF's institutional status is that of a Swiss association with a public-good, not-for-profit purpose and one of the three pillar institutions of Nexus Consortiums. GRF describes only its own standing and relationships, and only with a record; statuses held by GCRI or GRA belong to them alone and are never borrowed.

Mandate to authority.

How The Global Risks Forum is governedA mandate sets the platform's scope; an editor and reviewers govern what it publishes; programmes and the community supply the work; the integrity route handles corrections; authority over decisions stays outside. Design of the governance, not a record.

06How to check

Checking claims about status.

Consultative and observer statuses are listed publicly by the granting bodies, for example the ECOSOC NGO database. If a claim about GRF's status is not on this page with a record, treat it as unverified and report it through corrections.

07What GRF is not

No borrowed or implied status.

  • Not a government body, an intergovernmental body or a diplomatic mission.
  • Not a regulator, licensing body or certifying body, and not a financial institution.
  • Not the holder of any status recorded for GCRI, including GCRI's consultative status and memberships, which GCRI lists on GCRI affiliations and credentials.
  • Not the holder of GRA's legal identity as a nonprofit business league; see GRA's U.S. business-league identity.

No external accreditation, observer status or membership is recorded for GRF at present. If one is recorded, it will appear here in its exact wording, with its date.

08Relationships

How a relationship is added to this page.

United Nations agencies, banks, universities and regulators are audiences of GRF's work. They are named as partners only with a current permission record.

  1. 01

    A record exists

A letter, agreement or decision from the other party, held by GRF.

  2. 02

    Permission is current

The other party has agreed in writing to be named, and the permission has not lapsed.

  3. 03

    Wording is exact

The relationship is described in the words of the record, never upgraded to partnership or endorsement.

  4. 04

    It can be withdrawn

When a relationship ends, the page is updated and the change is recorded.

09Questions

Checking a claim about GRF.

If you see a status attributed to GRF that does not appear here, it is not confirmed by GRF. Write to integrity@globalriskforum.com. The acknowledgement gives a reference and names the next step. See also Swiss association identity and Claims and programme state.

Each term as this page uses it. Where a standard-setting body defines the term, the wording follows that body.

TermDefinition
Swiss associationA corporate body under the Swiss Civil Code formed for a non-commercial purpose, such as a scientific, cultural or charitable one, which acquires legal personality once its articles show the intention to exist as a corporate body.
AffiliationA recorded relationship, such as accreditation, membership or observer status, between an organization and another body; listing it implies no endorsement unless the other body says so.
Public accountabilityThe obligation of an institution to explain and justify its conduct to the public and to bodies that can question it, and to face consequences, as the OECD frames accountability in governance.

12Questions

Questions and answers.

Does GRF share GCRI's consultative status?
No. Statuses and memberships held by GCRI belong to GCRI alone and do not extend to GRF or GRA.
Does convening governments give GRF a public status?
No. Convening confers no public authority. GRF remains a private Swiss association whatever institutions take part in its work.
Can GRF be described as a partner of an international organisation?
Only where a current permission record exists, and in the record's exact words. No such relationship is listed at present.
Why list what GRF is not?
Because a forum that convenes governments and institutions must be clear that convening confers no public authority. Stating the limits protects participants and readers.
