Contributor terms
These terms apply when you contribute text, data, figures, comments or other material to The Global Risks Forum (GRF) for publication, or to a GRF council, dialogue, working group or standards text. They apply now to contributions sent to GRF addresses, and they apply to council, working group and standards submissions when those routes open. They form part of the terms of use. Version of 19 October 2026, effective on that date.
Contributor terms on the record.
What you confirm when you contribute.
Each contribution carries a sign-off line, in the form “Signed-off-by: [full name], [email address]”, in the message or the document. By adding it you confirm that:
- the contribution was created in whole or in part by you, and you have the right to submit it under these terms; or
- it is based on earlier work that, to the best of your knowledge, is covered by a licence that allows you to submit it, with or without changes, under these terms, and you name that work and its licence; or
- it was provided to you by someone who confirmed one of the two points above, and you have not changed it; and
- you understand that the contribution and the sign-off, including your name, may be published and kept as part of the public record.
The sign-off follows the Developer Certificate of Origin practice used in open standards and open-source work. You may contribute under a name other than your own only if GRF agrees, so that the record stays accountable.
Copyright, patents and moral rights.
- 01
Copyright licence
You keep ownership of your contribution. You grant GRF a perpetual, worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free and irrevocable licence to reproduce, adapt, translate, publish, distribute and sublicense it as part of GRF’s work, including under CC BY 4.0. For a contribution to the Nexus Standards, the same licence is granted to the Global Centre for Risk and Innovation (GCRI Canada) as their publisher of record. You are credited as you ask, or not named if you ask.
- 02
Patent licence
If your contribution contains or describes an invention that you or your employer can license, you grant every recipient of the published work a perpetual, worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence under the patent claims that are necessarily infringed by the contribution as published, to make, use, sell, offer for sale, import and otherwise implement it. The licence ends for anyone who brings a claim that the contribution infringes a patent. Standards texts follow the standards and IPR policy.
- 03
Moral rights
Where the law allows, you waive, or agree not to assert, your moral rights against GRF’s reasonable editing, shortening, translation and formatting of the contribution, and against publication without your name where you asked for that. Where moral rights cannot be waived, you consent to these acts. Your right to be named as author, when you ask, is respected.
- 04
Employer consent
If you contribute in the course of your employment or for an institution, you confirm that your employer or institution has authorised the contribution under these terms, or that it has no rights in it. If it has rights, sign off in its name or attach its written consent. Public servants confirm that their administration’s rules allow the contribution.
What a contribution must not contain.
- Material you have no right to share, including text, tables or figures copied from protected standards or reports.
- Personal data of other people without a lawful basis, or any special-category data.
- Confidential information of any organisation, unless the owner has agreed in writing that it may be shared.
- Defamatory, unlawful or misleading statements.
How GRF handles contributions.
- 01
Review and publication
GRF may edit, decline or remove a contribution. Publication is not endorsement of the contributor or of the contribution’s content, and creates no employment, payment or agency.
- 02
Withdrawal
You may withdraw a contribution before publication by writing to the address you sent it to. After publication the licence remains for the published versions, and GRF removes your name from future versions where you ask and the record allows.
- 03
