Mandate, publisher and status

Research Nexus is published by The Global Risks Forum (GRF), a Swiss association and public-good institution that leads institutional dialogue and the governance of shared risks within Nexus Consortiums. This page sets out the platform's subject mandate, who answers for it, the professional status of its work and what it does not do. In short, Research Nexus convenes research dialogue and records it; it does not publish science, fund research or certify anyone.

01In brief

The short answer.

Research Nexus is a specialist platform of The Global Risks Forum for research and evidence as well as governance and institutions. Its mandate covers institutional research dialogue, comparative learning and evidence interpretation without taking over GCRI scientific publication authority. GRF publishes it, answers for its content and takes no decision on anyone's behalf. It is established and works at service level R0, information and enquiries.

How Research Nexus is governedA mandate sets the platform's scope; an editor and reviewers govern what it publishes; programmes and the community supply the work; the integrity route handles corrections; authority over decisions stays outside. Design of the governance, not a record.

03Geography

People and hazards in Europe.

For mandate, publisher and status, in GRF's situational-awareness reading, the map opens on population density, night lights and flood water, framed on Europe; 3 further NASA layers wait in the list.

04Mandate

Institutional research dialogue on shared risk.

The mandate is institutional research dialogue, comparative learning and evidence interpretation, without taking over the scientific publication authority of The Global Centre for Risk and Innovation (GCRI).

Dialogue

Across disciplines

Bringing researchers and institutions together on questions none can answer alone.

Comparison

Across institutions

Comparing how different countries and organizations use evidence on risk.

Interpretation

What evidence means

Transparent discussion of how findings apply to real decisions, and with what uncertainty.

05Remit

A platform about how research reaches risk decisions.

Research Nexus studies the passage from a research finding to an institutional decision: how questions are commissioned, how evidence is synthesised and contested, and how uncertainty survives the trip into a briefing note. Its subject is the science-policy interface itself, including the norms that govern it, such as the INGSA principles for science advice and the UNESCO Recommendation on Open Science.

  • In scope: commissioning, synthesis, expert elicitation, advice structures, research integrity where it touches policy.
  • Out of scope: producing primary science, which is GCRI's role, and advising any government.
06Publisher

GRF answers for the platform.

GRF convenes and governs programmes. It does not regulate, finance, procure or certify, and hosting or sponsorship confers no authority over findings. GRF leads on leadership, institutional dialogue and the governance of the Nexus Universe annual programme. Research Nexus applies that role to research: it hosts dialogue, keeps records and returns unresolved questions to the research agenda.

The platform's community is policy scholars, social scientists, international researchers and evidence reviewers. Its outputs are research dialogue records, methods seminars and peer learning briefs. Scientific findings are published by GCRI through Nexus Reports.

07Professional status

What a dialogue record is, and what it is not.

  • A dialogue record reports what participants said and agreed. It is not peer-reviewed research and is labelled accordingly.
  • Participation confers no endorsement of a participant, institution or study.
  • GRF does not fund, commission or certify research, and sponsorship confers no influence over records.
  • Decisions remain with the authorities and institutions responsible for them.

See trust, rights and status for how records are kept and corrected.

TermDefinition
Service level R0The current service level of Nexus pages: information and enquiries only. An enquiry receives a reference and a named next step; it creates no membership, contract, assignment or commitment.
Conflict of interestA situation in which financial, professional or personal interests could compromise, or appear to compromise, judgement in research or review.
Research governanceThe rules, institutions and practices that decide how research is commissioned, reviewed, shared, corrected and taken up, from funder policies to institutional codes.
Science-policy interfaceThe arrangements through which scientific evidence reaches public decisions, including advisory committees, chief scientific advisers, academies and intergovernmental assessments.
