01In brief

The short answer.

Research Nexus in Nexus Universe is the platform's part in the annual programme GRF governs, through mission themes such as evidence review for edition themes. Themes are proposals; confirmed exercises are announced on universe.nexus, and results are published with their limits after review.

Scoping to review.

Annual programme contribution: a programme through its gates A request with a named owner becomes a scoping note; inputs are qualified at a gate; delivery runs in workstreams; a controlled test and an independent review precede publication; the owner decides. Design of the process, not a record of a run.

03Geography

Hazards and exposure in Europe.

For annual programme contribution, in GRF's situational-awareness reading, the map opens on population density, flood water and night lights, framed on Europe; 3 further NASA layers wait in the list.

The interactive map needs JavaScript; the layer list and sources are below.

What this platform brings.

  1. 01

    Evidence review for edition themes

A mission theme proposed for the annual programme.

05Key terms

Terms used on this page.

Each term as this page uses it. Where a standard-setting body defines the term, the wording follows that body.

Term Definition
Mission theme A subject a platform proposes for controlled testing in the annual Nexus Universe programme; a theme is a proposal until the programme confirms an exercise.
Full-scale exercise An operations-based exercise in which agencies deploy people and equipment in real time against a scenario.
After-action review A structured review of what was planned, what happened and what should change, held after an exercise or real event.
Simulation exercise A practice, training or evaluation activity in which an emergency is described or simulated and participants respond as they would in reality, so that plans and capacities can be tested, as WHO's exercise manual describes.

The GRF gateway explains the programme's governance, and universe.nexus is its own site.

07Questions

Questions and answers.

Is a theme a confirmed exercise?
No. Themes are proposals; confirmed exercises are announced on the Nexus Universe website.
