The Global Risks Forum (GRF)
How institutions put research Nexus into practice: comparative experience, lessons learned and the conditions under which approaches work.
Research Nexus practice notes compare how institutions put the governance of research and evidence as well as governance and institutions into practice: approaches across jurisdictions, what worked, what did not and the conditions behind each. Notes are published with their limits so others can adapt them; they are not prescriptions, and GRF does not regulate, finance or certify.

GRF convenes and governs programmes. It does not regulate, finance, procure or certify, and hosting or sponsorship confers no authority over findings.
| Pattern | What institutions did | Lesson for practice |
|---|---|---|
| Standing advisory groups | Health and emergency agencies convened expert groups during crises, some publishing minutes | Publishing advice and minutes supports trust when evidence changes |
| Rapid evidence reviews | Agencies commissioned reviews in days rather than months | Speed needs stated shortcuts and a planned full review |
| Living guidelines | Guidance updated as evidence arrived | Version control and change notes matter as much as content |
Practice notes describe kinds of institutional practice and cite public records; they do not grade institutions.
Each term as this page uses it. Where a standard-setting body defines the term, the wording follows that body.
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Comparative case study | Analysis of several cases chosen to compare how context affects an outcome. |
| Lessons learned | Documented knowledge from experience, positive or negative, recorded to change future practice. |
| Peer benchmarking | Judging a fund's performance against similar funds, which encourages similar allocations. |
| Knowledge translation | The practices that move research into use, from syntheses and policy briefs to co-production and embedded advisers, and that return decision needs to researchers. |
The bodies and documents this page is read against. Status and editions change; each link goes to the issuing body.
The current service level is R0: information and enquiries. An enquiry receives a reference and names the next step; applications, payments, compute allocations and registrations open only when their team, terms and review capacity exist.
