Slovenia Risks Forum

The Global Risks Forum – National Engagement Series: Slovenia is an annual, hybrid-format initiative led by NWG Slovenia, an independent coalition of researchers, policymakers, youth leaders, and international partners. Operating independently from the Government of Slovenia and without political affiliation, NWG Slovenia offers a nonpartisan, systems-oriented platform to advance disaster risk reduction (DRR), disaster risk finance (DRF), and disaster risk intelligence (DRI) across sectors and regions.

As part of the broader mission of the Global Risks Alliance (GRA) and Global Risks Forum (GRF), the series convenes diverse actors from the quintuple helix—academia, civil society, private sector, international organizations, and government (as stakeholders only)—to address evolving risks and co-develop sustainability, digital resilience, and climate adaptation strategies within Slovenia and the Central European region.

Strategic Purpose

The Slovenia edition is designed to:

  • Tackle complex risks including climate-induced floods, energy shifts, seismic vulnerability, and water management challenges;
  • Strengthen anticipatory governance and sustainability transitions across green infrastructure, mobility, and health systems;
  • Promote data-driven policy design through open science, digital inclusion, and civic technology innovation;
  • Support EU-aligned resilience strategies while fostering regional cooperation across the Western Balkans and Alpine-Adriatic corridor.

Sessions prioritize scenario-based planning, simulation-informed decision-making, and cross-sectoral collaboration rooted in transparency and shared innovation.

Technical Foundation: Nexus Ecosystem Integration

The forum is powered by the Nexus Ecosystem, a modular, AI- and quantum-cloud-enabled infrastructure designed for dynamic risk governance, knowledge sharing, and systems transformation. Key Nexus capabilities for Slovenia include:

  • AI-enhanced climate and hydrological forecasting for flood-prone and mountainous regions
  • Geospatial and Earth observation tools for biodiversity conservation, land-use policy, and sustainable agriculture
  • Blockchain-enabled finance systems for ESG investment, circular economy incentives, and green public procurement
  • Digital twin simulations for critical infrastructure, smart cities, and public service innovation
  • IoT-connected early warning systems for environmental hazards, air quality, and emergency services
  • Cyber-physical risk dashboards for resilience in energy grids, digital infrastructure, and regional logistics
  • Standardized benchmarking indices aligned with the EU Green Deal, Horizon Europe, and SDGs

These capabilities empower Slovenia’s stakeholders to co-develop scalable, ethical, and forward-looking solutions to complex societal and environmental challenges.

Governance and Participation

NWG Slovenia is fully institutionally independent, governed in alignment with the scientific, participatory, and ethical principles of the GRA and GRF. It is not affiliated with or accountable to any governmental or political entity, ensuring neutrality, inclusivity, and integrity in all forum activities.

Participation is open to researchers, technologists, municipal leaders, educators, youth organizations, civil society networks, and international partners. The forum fosters democratic innovation, regional solidarity, and systems thinking in pursuit of resilient and sustainable futures.

Join the Movement

We invite environmental planners, policy experts, engineers, sustainability champions, and civic innovators to participate in the Global Risks Forum – Slovenia Series as speakers, co-creators, and partners. Collaborate to shape a greener, smarter, and more resilient Slovenia—locally grounded and globally connected.
