Seychelles Risks Forum

The Global Risks Forum – National Engagement Series: Seychelles is an annual, hybrid-format initiative led by NWG Seychelles, an independent coalition of national experts, community leaders, and international collaborators. Operating without affiliation to the Government of Seychelles or any political entity, NWG Seychelles offers a nonpartisan, systems-based platform for advancing disaster risk reduction (DRR), disaster risk finance (DRF), and disaster risk intelligence (DRI).

As part of the wider mission of the Global Risks Alliance (GRA) and the Global Risks Forum (GRF), the forum brings together stakeholders from the quintuple helix—academia, civil society, private sector, international institutions, and government (in a stakeholder—not organizing—role)—to address the urgent climate and development challenges facing small island developing states (SIDS).

Strategic Purpose

The Seychelles edition is designed to:

  • Address key vulnerabilities including sea-level rise, coral reef degradation, freshwater scarcity, and tropical storm exposure;
  • Support blue economy innovation and marine governance through risk-informed finance and environmental foresight;
  • Integrate traditional ecological knowledge, youth leadership, and digital innovation into national adaptation strategies;
  • Foster South-South cooperation and regional resilience across the Western Indian Ocean and broader African SIDS networks.

Sessions focus on simulation-based policy design, nature-based solutions, and localized governance models that align sustainability with sovereignty.

Technical Foundation: Nexus Ecosystem Integration

The forum is powered by the Nexus Ecosystem, a quantum-cloud-enabled digital infrastructure combining AI, blockchain, and real-time simulation to support evidence-based resilience planning. Key Nexus capabilities for Seychelles include:

  • AI-enhanced forecasting for cyclones, ocean acidification, and coastal flooding
  • Geospatial and satellite intelligence for marine ecosystem monitoring, land degradation, and infrastructure exposure
  • Blockchain-based disaster finance systems for parametric insurance, sovereign blue bonds, and community recovery mechanisms
  • IoT-integrated early warning systems for severe weather events, public health, and biodiversity threats
  • Digital twin simulations for sustainable tourism, fisheries management, and green infrastructure planning
  • Scenario-based engines for food security, circular economy design, and education system resilience
  • Risk benchmarking frameworks aligned with SDG targets, the SAMOA Pathway, and Seychelles’ Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs)

These tools enable data-driven collaboration, capacity building, and anticipatory planning across island systems.

Governance and Participation

NWG Seychelles is fully institutionally independent, guided by the ethical, participatory, and scientific frameworks of the GRA and GRF. It is not affiliated with or accountable to any political or governmental body, ensuring transparency, neutrality, and inclusive participation.

Participation is open to marine scientists, youth leaders, local NGOs, tourism stakeholders, policy experts, technologists, and international allies. The forum promotes equitable knowledge exchange, regional diplomacy, and systems innovation to strengthen national and bioregional resilience.

Join the Movement

We invite coastal planners, climate advocates, sustainability innovators, Indigenous knowledge holders, and global partners to contribute to the Global Risks Forum – Seychelles Series as speakers, facilitators, and collaborators. Together, we can co-create regenerative, ocean-centered futures rooted in Seychelles’ leadership, cultural identity, and ecological vision.
