Niger Risks Forum

The Global Risks Forum – National Engagement Series: Niger is a hybrid-format initiative led by NWG Niger, an autonomous coalition of Sahelian climate scientists, Indigenous leaders, civil society organizations, agricultural experts, humanitarian actors, and youth innovators. Operating independently of the Government of Niger and all political affiliations, NWG Niger provides a nonpartisan platform to advance disaster risk reduction (DRR), disaster risk finance (DRF), and disaster risk intelligence (DRI) in one of the most climate- and conflict-affected regions of the world.

Aligned with the Global Risks Alliance (GRA) and the Global Risks Forum (GRF), the Niger edition connects local adaptation strategies with global foresight systems and ethical innovation frameworks. It brings together stakeholders from the quintuple helix—academia, civil society, private sector, public institutions (as stakeholders), and international organizations—to co-create risk governance systems grounded in justice, resilience, and food sovereignty.

Strategic Purpose

The Niger edition is designed to:

  • Address multi-layered risks including drought, desertification, armed conflict, food insecurity, displacement, and fragile governance;
  • Strengthen anticipatory governance, early warning systems, and regional cooperation for climate, peace, and development;
  • Promote disaster risk finance mechanisms such as blockchain-based humanitarian transfers, microinsurance for pastoralists, and anticipatory cash-based programming;
  • Empower Indigenous knowledge holders, rural communities, women’s networks, and youth movements to lead localized, scalable resilience efforts.

Sessions will include foresight dialogues, policy co-design labs, and simulation-based planning for conflict-sensitive resilience and cross-border adaptation.

Governance and Participation

All NWG Niger activities are independently governed and executed, in full alignment with the principles of GRA and GRF. The forum is not affiliated with or accountable to any government or political party, ensuring scientific neutrality, ethical integrity, and safe, inclusive participation.

Participation is open to Indigenous councils, humanitarian actors, climate adaptation researchers, rural cooperatives, youth organizations, gender justice groups, and international partners. The Niger series promotes horizontal learning, inclusive innovation, and transformational governance in fragile ecological and socio-political contexts.

Join the Movement

We invite peacebuilders, agroecologists, resilience financiers, humanitarian logisticians, pastoralist advocates, and technologists to co-create the Global Risks Forum – Niger Series. This is a vital opportunity to build anticipatory, decolonized, and community-owned solutions to the Sahel’s complex risk landscape—while contributing to a globally networked ecosystem for sustainable, inclusive transformation.
