Marshall Islands Risks Forum

The Global Risks Forum – National Engagement Series: Marshall Islands is a high-priority, hybrid-format initiative led by NWG Marshall Islands, an autonomous coalition of climate advocates, Indigenous leaders, marine scientists, policy experts, and youth organizers. Functioning independently of the Government of the Marshall Islands and all political affiliations, NWG Marshall Islands offers a trusted, nonpartisan platform for advancing disaster risk reduction (DRR), disaster risk finance (DRF), and disaster risk intelligence (DRI) in one of the world’s most climate-vulnerable nations.

Aligned with the Global Risks Alliance (GRA) and the Global Risks Forum (GRF), this series connects Marshallese communities with global foresight systems, supporting localized, inclusive, and anticipatory action. The forum activates collaboration across the quintuple helix—academia, civil society, private sector, public institutions (as stakeholders), and international partners.

Strategic Purpose

The Marshall Islands edition is designed to:

  • Confront existential threats such as sea-level rise, coastal erosion, saltwater intrusion, and forced displacement;
  • Strengthen anticipatory governance and international climate diplomacy through locally led solutions;
  • Advance disaster risk finance tools like parametric insurance, relocation-linked funding, and blockchain-enabled aid transparency;
  • Integrate traditional ecological knowledge, Indigenous governance, and youth leadership into long-term resilience frameworks.

Sessions are grounded in simulation-based dialogue, participatory scenario planning, and co-creation of policy mechanisms specific to small island developing states (SIDS) and atoll nations.

Governance and Participation

All NWG Marshall Islands activities are independently led and governed, in alignment with GRA and GRF principles. The forum is not affiliated with or accountable to any political party or governmental entity, ensuring scientific credibility, ethical neutrality, and inclusive participation.

Participation is open to Indigenous councils, youth leaders, environmental scientists, civil society organizations, financial actors, and international allies. The Marshall Islands series prioritizes climate justice, intergenerational equity, and community-led innovation.

Join the Movement

We invite ocean scientists, climate finance experts, policy advocates, technologists, diaspora voices, and frontline leaders to co-create the Global Risks Forum – Marshall Islands Series. This is a critical opportunity to shape anticipatory governance and resilience for island futures—while connecting Marshallese leadership to a global ecosystem of solidarity, risk foresight, and transformative action.
