Mali Risks Forum

The Global Risks Forum – National Engagement Series: Mali is a hybrid-format initiative led by NWG Mali, an autonomous coalition of researchers, Indigenous leaders, peacebuilders, youth organizations, technologists, and development practitioners. Operating independently of the Government of Mali and all political affiliations, NWG Mali provides a nonpartisan platform to advance disaster risk reduction (DRR), disaster risk finance (DRF), and disaster risk intelligence (DRI) through inclusive, locally rooted, and foresight-driven collaboration.

In alignment with the Global Risks Alliance (GRA) and the Global Risks Forum (GRF), the Mali edition links national resilience efforts with global systems for anticipatory governance, conflict-sensitive development, and sustainable innovation. It engages actors across the quintuple helix—academia, civil society, private sector, international partners, and public institutions (as stakeholders, not organizers).

Strategic Purpose

The Mali edition is designed to:

  • Address compound risks related to climate change, food insecurity, desertification, displacement, and fragility in governance systems;
  • Strengthen anticipatory and adaptive governance at the intersection of environmental, economic, and humanitarian crises;
  • Promote disaster risk finance solutions such as community-based insurance, mobile early action transfers, and blockchain-enabled accountability tools;
  • Center local knowledge, Indigenous practices, youth leadership, and gender-inclusive strategies in long-term resilience planning.

Sessions include simulation labs, participatory foresight exercises, and co-design workshops tailored to the Sahelian context and cross-border regional risks.

Governance and Participation

All NWG Mali activities are independently designed and managed, in accordance with the values of scientific integrity, local ownership, and ethical engagement as outlined by GRA and GRF. The forum is not affiliated with or accountable to any governmental or political body, preserving its neutrality and collaborative legitimacy.

Participation is open to humanitarian actors, agroecologists, Indigenous communities, educators, youth networks, local governments, and international development organizations. The Mali series emphasizes inclusive innovation, peer exchange, and place-based governance rooted in peace, justice, and sustainability.

Join the Movement

We invite environmental scientists, peacebuilders, financial actors, civil society leaders, resilience planners, and diaspora professionals to co-create the Global Risks Forum – Mali Series. This is an opportunity to build just, locally embedded, and digitally empowered systems for risk governance—while contributing to a globally networked alliance for resilience, equity, and future-readiness.
