Cyprus Risks Forum
The Global Risks Forum – National Engagement Series: Cyprus is an annual, hybrid-format initiative led by NWG Cyprus, an independent coalition of scientists, technologists, civil society leaders, youth representatives, and diaspora experts. Operating autonomously from the Government of Cyprus and without any political affiliation, NWG Cyprus serves as a nonpartisan, evidence-based platform for strategic dialogue and innovation in disaster risk reduction (DRR), disaster risk finance (DRF), and disaster risk intelligence (DRI).
This national series aligns with the global vision of the Global Risks Alliance (GRA) and the Global Risks Forum (GRF)—transdisciplinary initiatives committed to advancing anticipatory governance, technology-driven resilience, and cross-sectoral foresight. The forum facilitates multi-stakeholder collaboration across the quintuple helix—academia, civil society, private sector, government (as stakeholder only), and international organizations—connecting Cyprus’s local knowledge to global resilience ecosystems.
Strategic Purpose
The Cyprus series is designed to:
- Facilitate autonomous and inclusive dialogue on national and regional risks including seismic activity, climate volatility, and geopolitical tensions;
- Promote the integration of frontier technologies in coastal resilience, sustainable urban planning, and water security;
- Develop anticipatory finance mechanisms and risk-informed policy tools to support public and private sector adaptation;
- Foster innovation through collaboration with municipalities, youth-led initiatives, and regional networks in the Eastern Mediterranean.
The event focuses on generating practical outcomes, such as multi-hazard early warning systems, simulation-based policy prototypes, and sustainable finance strategies tailored to Cyprus’s ecological and socio-political contexts.
Governance and Participation
NWG Cyprus operates with full autonomy, in line with the ethical and strategic frameworks of the GRA and GRF. It is not affiliated with, funded by, or accountable to any government or political entity, ensuring all outputs are shaped by transparency, scientific rigor, and collaborative independence.
Participation is open to academics, policymakers, technologists, civil society actors, youth networks, and diaspora organizations committed to co-producing knowledge and building Cyprus’s capacity for anticipatory and sustainable resilience.
Join the Movement
We invite thought leaders, climate experts, urban planners, financial innovators, and community stakeholders to take part in the Global Risks Forum – Cyprus Series as speakers, contributors, and partners. This is a pivotal opportunity to co-develop risk governance systems, foster transboundary resilience, and connect Cyprus to a global community of practice dedicated to equitable innovation and future-ready solutions.
