Costa Rica Risks Forum
The Global Risks Forum – National Engagement Series: Costa Rica is an annual, hybrid-format event organized by NWG Costa Rica, an independent coalition of scientists, civil society actors, environmentalists, Indigenous representatives, technologists, and international partners. Functioning autonomously from the Government of Costa Rica and any political affiliation, NWG Costa Rica provides a nonpartisan platform for collaborative foresight and innovation in disaster risk reduction (DRR), disaster risk finance (DRF), and disaster risk intelligence (DRI).
This national series is part of the broader mission of the Global Risks Alliance (GRA) and the Global Risks Forum (GRF)—global initiatives that promote anticipatory governance, systems innovation, and transdisciplinary resilience strategies. The forum convenes a wide range of stakeholders from the quintuple helix—academia, government (as stakeholder only), civil society, the private sector, and international organizations—bridging local challenges with global solutions.
Strategic Purpose
The Costa Rica series is designed to:
- Facilitate independent, multi-sector dialogue on national and regional systemic risks, including climate change, biodiversity loss, and disaster vulnerability;
- Advance the use of frontier technologies and simulation modeling in nature-based and ecosystem-based adaptation planning;
- Strengthen public financial tools, climate policy innovation, and cross-sector co-governance;
- Amplify Indigenous and community-led solutions in bioregional resilience and regenerative development.
The forum emphasizes actionable outcomes through the co-development of early warning systems, adaptive finance instruments, and policy frameworks tailored to Costa Rica’s ecological, social, and economic context.
Governance and Participation
NWG Costa Rica is independently governed, operating without oversight, funding, or direction from government or political entities. All processes are aligned with the governance principles of the GRA and GRF, emphasizing ethical independence, transparency, scientific integrity, and inclusive participation.
The forum is open to researchers, practitioners, community leaders, youth innovators, diaspora representatives, financial institutions, and ecosystem stewards who are committed to shaping Costa Rica’s sustainable and resilient future through nonpartisan, forward-thinking engagement.
Join the Movement
We invite climate leaders, policy experts, technology developers, financial strategists, and civil society actors to engage in the Global Risks Forum – Costa Rica Series as speakers, collaborators, and partners. This is a critical opportunity to co-create anticipatory governance systems, regenerative finance mechanisms, and inclusive innovation platforms rooted in Costa Rica’s unique ecological identity and connected to a global resilience movement.
