Botswana Risks Forum

The Global Risks Forum – National Engagement Series: Botswana is a nationally led, hybrid-format initiative hosted by NWG Botswana, an independent platform composed of academic institutions, youth leaders, Indigenous experts, civil society organizations, and innovation stakeholders. Operating independently from the Government of Botswana and any political affiliations, NWG Botswana offers a nonpartisan, evidence-based space for addressing disaster risk reduction (DRR), disaster risk finance (DRF), and disaster risk intelligence (DRI).

This edition contributes to the broader mission of the Global Risks Alliance (GRA) and Global Risks Forum (GRF)—planetary frameworks advancing systemic foresight, resilience innovation, and ethical global collaboration. The Botswana forum engages participants across the quintuple helix—academia, civil society, private sector, international organizations, and government (as non-governing stakeholders).

Strategic Purpose

The Botswana series is designed to:

• Address multi-dimensional risks such as drought, water scarcity, desertification, economic dependency on extractives, and wildlife-human conflict;
• Integrate Indigenous ecological knowledge and modern science into anticipatory planning and sustainability governance;
• Promote financial innovation through community-based climate funds, nature-based insurance, and ESG-aligned investments;
• Support inclusive knowledge systems, youth-led innovation, and gender-equitable approaches to resilience.

Through strategic workshops, foresight labs, and simulation-based policy design, the forum produces outcomes such as digital risk platforms, localized adaptation strategies, and participatory financing frameworks.

Governance and Participation

NWG Botswana operates with full independence, aligned with the global standards and principles of the GRA and GRF. It is not affiliated with or accountable to any political body or government, ensuring all engagements reflect ethical integrity, inclusive governance, and global-local collaboration.

Participation is open to researchers, policy designers, Indigenous and rural community leaders, environmental managers, entrepreneurs, youth networks, and global partners. The forum encourages horizontal learning, decolonized innovation, and intergenerational dialogue.
