Barbados Risks Forum
The Global Risks Forum – National Engagement Series: Barbados is a national, hybrid-format initiative led by NWG Barbados, an autonomous platform composed of experts, innovators, youth leaders, and civil society actors. Operating independently of the Government of Barbados or any political affiliations, NWG Barbados offers a trusted, nonpartisan space for advancing evidence-based dialogue and collaborative action in disaster risk reduction (DRR), disaster risk finance (DRF), and disaster risk intelligence (DRI).
This series is part of the global efforts of the Global Risks Alliance (GRA) and the Global Risks Forum (GRF), which connect local action to global systems for anticipatory governance and sustainable resilience. The Barbados edition engages stakeholders across the quintuple helix—academia, civil society, private sector, government institutions (as non-controlling stakeholders), and international partners.
Strategic Purpose
The Barbados series aims to:
- Tackle systemic threats such as tropical storms, sea-level rise, energy security, and financial volatility;
- Strengthen early warning systems, disaster preparedness, and national adaptation plans using digital tools and simulations;
- Mobilize innovative financial instruments for climate resilience and sustainable infrastructure;
- Promote equitable participation of Caribbean youth, communities, and the diaspora in resilience governance.
The forum focuses on producing actionable outcomes, including policy blueprints, anticipatory finance mechanisms, nature-based adaptation solutions, and regional cooperation frameworks rooted in island-state needs and leadership.
Governance and Participation
NWG Barbados is fully independent, guided by the values of scientific integrity, transparency, and global solidarity. Its operations are aligned with GRA and GRF frameworks and are not affiliated with or accountable to any government or political body.
Participation is open to researchers, financial experts, environmental advocates, municipal leaders, regional organizations, youth groups, and global partners dedicated to transformative, justice-centered resilience. The forum values inclusive innovation, transdisciplinary collaboration, and decolonized knowledge systems.
Join the Movement
We invite Caribbean scholars, resilience practitioners, climate financiers, diaspora changemakers, technology developers, and international collaborators to join the Global Risks Forum – Barbados Series as speakers, contributors, and partners. This is a unique opportunity to co-create visionary risk governance systems, climate-smart finance strategies, and integrated resilience tools that speak to the lived realities of Barbados and the wider Caribbean.
