DESCRIPTION:In resolution 78/272 of 24 April 2024, the General Assembly decided to establish a Preparatory Commission (“the Commission”) to prepare for the entry into force of the Agreement under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea on the Conservation and Sustainable Use of Marine Biological Diversity of Areas beyond National Jurisdiction (“BBNJ Agreement”) and to prepare for the convening of the first meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Agreement.\nPursuant to General Assembly decision 78/560 of 13 August 2024, the first session of the Commission was held from 14 to 25 April 2025. Pursuant to the same decision, the second session of the Commission is scheduled to be held in person from 18 to 29 August 2025 at United Nations Headquarters in New York. Formal meetings may be webcast, for viewing only, through UN Web TV: https://webtv.un.org.\nRegistration for non-governmental organizations will open on 16 June 2025 and close on 1 August 2025.\nRegistration for interested intergovernmental organizations and other interested international bodies will open on 30 June 2025 and close on 1 August 2025.\n__________________\nDans sa résolution 78/272 du 24 avril 2024, l’Assemblée générale des Nations Unies a décidé de créer une Commission préparatoire (« la Commission ») pour l’entrée en vigueur del’Accord se rapportant à la Convention des Nations Unies sur le droit de la mer et portant sur la conservation et l’utilisation durable de la diversité biologique marine des zones ne relevant pas de la juridiction nationale (« Accord BBNJ ») et la tenue de la première réunion de la Conférence des Parties à l’Accord.\nConformément à la décision 78/560 de l’Assemblée générale en date du 13 août 2024, la première session de la Commission s’est tenue du 14 au 25 avril 2025. Aux termes de la même décision, la deuxième session de la Commission doit se tenir en personne du 18 au 29 août 2025 au Siège de l’ONU, à New York.
