WHO workshop on implementation of guidelines on regulatory preparedness for the oversight of pandemic or other emergency use vaccines in importing countries, 16 June – 19 June 2025, Bangkok, Thailand
OBJECTIVES
This WHO workshop aims to strengthen the country and national regulatory capacity for authorizing the use of medicines products with focus on pandemic vaccines to better respond to pandemics and other public health emergencies, based on the WHO strategies and guidelines.
identify the factors that affect access to quality-assured pandemic vaccines during public health emergencies;
guide through the different regulatory approaches (including reliance and recognition) for authorizing the use of medical products, for public health emergencies and associated quality control and safety monitoring components;
emphasize the importance of strong in-country communication and networks for pandemic preparedness and response; and
update/develop country roadmap for regulatory preparedness in authorizing the use of medical products, during public health emergencies.
EXPECTED OUTCOME
At the end of the workshop, the participants as a whole-country team will have:
a better understanding of how to identify, understand, plan, and implement the management process of the regulatory pathways, approaches, and the WHO strategies and guidelines for authorizing the use of medical products and the links to national plans for emergency preparedness and risk management;
the strengths and areas for improvement of the regulatory system addressing timely approval of the pandemic medical products are documented; and a drafted two-year country roadmap for regulatory preparedness
