The short answer.
Innovation Nexus practice notes compare how institutions put the governance of innovation, artificial intelligence, and industry and robotics into practice: approaches across jurisdictions, what worked, what did not and the conditions behind each. Notes are published with their limits so others can adapt them; they are not prescriptions, and GRF does not regulate, finance or certify.

Practice notes are not prescriptions.
GRF convenes and governs programmes. It does not regulate, finance, procure or certify, and hosting or sponsorship confers no authority over findings.
What institutions learn from trials.
- Trials without exit criteria tend to become permanent by default; good sandbox designs state when a trial ends and what happens then.
- Pilots that succeed in one district often fail at scale because the staff and data conditions differ.
- Procurement rules can block innovation unless the buyer specifies outcomes rather than solutions.
- Public trust in a new tool depends on how errors are reported and corrected.
Each note cites public evaluation records. The responsible innovation topic sets out the anticipatory frame.
Terms used on this page.
Each term as this page uses it. Where a standard-setting body defines the term, the wording follows that body.
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Comparative case study | Analysis of several cases chosen to compare how context affects an outcome. |
| Lessons learned | Documented knowledge from experience, positive or negative, recorded to change future practice. |
| Peer benchmarking | Judging a fund's performance against similar funds, which encourages similar allocations. |
| Mission-oriented innovation policy | Public policy that sets a societal goal and mobilises research and several sectors to reach it. |
