Mandate, publisher and status

Climate and Nature Governance is a specialist platform of The Global Risks Forum (GRF). Its mandate is the governance of climate, adaptation, nature and transboundary environmental priorities: the institutions and policy frameworks that hold responsibility, and how they can work better together. This page sets out the forum publisher, the subject mandate, the professional status of the platform and the limits of its role.

01In brief

The short answer.

Climate and Nature Governance is a specialist platform of The Global Risks Forum for climate and hazards, biodiversity and nature, water, and food and agriculture. Its mandate covers institutions and policy frameworks responsible for climate, adaptation, nature and transboundary environmental priorities. GRF publishes it, answers for its content and takes no decision on anyone's behalf. It is in development at service level R0, and activities open as each is ready.

How Climate and Nature Governance is governedA mandate sets the platform's scope; an editor and reviewers govern what it publishes; programmes and the community supply the work; the integrity route handles corrections; authority over decisions stays outside. Design of the governance, not a record.

04Mandate

Institutions for climate and nature.

The platform exists to give those responsible for climate and nature a shared, comparative view of how institutions work, and a neutral setting in which to discuss what does not.

Field

Scope

Climate and hazards, biodiversity and nature, water, and food and agriculture, seen as governance questions.

Community

Who takes part

Climate governance researchers, environment agencies, regional bodies and conservation institutions.

Outputs

What it is designed to publish

Climate governance dossiers, nature-policy dialogues and adaptation policy briefs.

05Remit

Institutions for adaptation, nature and shared ecosystems.

Climate and Nature Governance is a proposed specialist community, in development, for the institutions that implement the Paris Agreement, the Kunming-Montreal framework, the UNCCD and the BBNJ Agreement on the ground: environment and planning ministries, basin and coastal authorities, protected area agencies and Indigenous territorial governments. Its question is how commitments made under separate conventions are delivered coherently in the same places.

06Publisher

Who is responsible.

The Global Risks Forum (GRF) publishes the platform and answers for its content. GRF is a Swiss association; within the Nexus Consortiums it leads on leadership, institutional dialogue, the annual agenda and the governance of the Nexus Universe programme.

  • Subject editors review topic pages and outputs before release, and record dissenting expert views.
  • The Water and Food Security Governance chapter brings together specialists in water and food security governance within the platform.
  • Rights, status and corrections are set out on trust, rights and status; GRF's wider position is described on GRF independence.
07Professional status

Why a dedicated platform, and what it is not.

The platform serves a distinct practitioner base, environmental governance professionals, with comparative institutional methods. It is a forum and research setting, not an authority.

  • GRF convenes and governs programmes. It does not regulate, finance, procure or certify, and hosting or sponsorship confers no authority over findings.
  • It does not represent any government, negotiate on anyone's behalf or speak for the bodies it studies.
  • Taking part in a dialogue gives no authority, appointment or influence over findings.
  • Climate science is done at The Global Centre for Risk and Innovation (GCRI), for example in Climate and Hazards; financial-sector questions belong with The Global Risks Alliance (GRA), for example Climate and Nature Financial Risk.
